Clear Creek Watershed Wetland Habitat Atlas - Legend

Riparian Forest (RF)

Includes mainly riparian forest along Clear Creek, forested wetland depressions, and some upland forests, including coastal flatwoods. Wetland hydrology is controlled mainly by overbank flooding along Clear Creek.

Coastal Flatwoods (CF)

Forested wetlands with hydrology controlled mainly by localized runoff. In this area dominated by Willow Oak and palmettoes.

Estuarine (E) - Areas influenced by tidal fluctuations.

a. Intertidal - includes salt, brackish, and freshwater regularly and irregularly flooded marshes.

b. Subtidal - includes subtidal habitats that were formed by the subsidence of tidal marshes, off channel subtidal habitats, and associated tidal marsh remnants.

c. Submerged Aquatic Vegetation - includes subtidal/ephemeral widgeon grass Ruppia maritima habitats.

Other Prairie (OP)

Other wet prairies. Usually "gumbo" clay. Very broad wet depressions

Prairie Pothole Pimple-Mound Complexes (PP)

PP-1 Pothole and pimple mound complex is essentially intact. Little or no land-leveling has taken place. The full range of topographic variation is present. Vegetation may or may not be disturbed

PP-2 Pothole and pimple mound complex has been at least semi-leveled. Few pimple mounds remain, but the wetland configuration is essentially intact, although the wetlands may have significantly less storage capacity than in their original condition. Or the complex may be essentially intact, but the area has some urban disturbance (e.g., roads and drainage).

PP-3 Pothole and pimple mound complex has been extensively leveled, but significant wetland resources remain on the site. Or the area may be semi-leveled, but significant urban disturbance is present.
