Urban Wetland on Brays BayouBrays Bayou Urban Stormwater Treatment WetlandThe Brays Bayou stormwater wetland project is a collaboration between the Harris County Flood Control District, Texas Cooperative Extension/Texas Sea Grant, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the City of Houston Parks Department (Houston Parks and Recreation Department), and the Galveston Bay Estuary Program. This 3-acre project is associated with the widening of the bayou, and will incorporate a freshwater tidally-influenced wetland in the lower part, and a stormwater treatment wetland in the upper part. High school students from the surrounding area are participating in plant collection and nursery activities. Chavez and Austin High students have been the most actively involved thus far. During the planting phase, the students have been a key force in the planting of the site with approximately 10,000 native weltand plants. Their efforts have been mentored entirely by trained Wetland Restoration Team member, who are also members of the Texas Master Naturalist program.
